Helping Hands

Kenya is a developing country and the living standards are very low. Many of our guests have asked us how they can help. Below please find a list of initiatives that have been started and our managed by our guests.

Neema Foundation

The NEEMA FOUNDATION supports the Baraka Children’s Home in Kwale District (where Diani and Ukunda are located). The Baraka House houses 15 traumatized children, whose parents died of AIDS. It also supports HIV positive children and their sick mothers, which are banned by their family and community. www.stichting-neema.nl or neemakenia@hetnet.nl

Dutch Dental Care

Dutch Dental Care Foundation (DDC) sends dental teams to schools in southern Kenya. A team consists of several dentists, dental surgeons, dental (prevention)assistants, dental hygienists and helpers (dental background not required) Team members are volunteers who pay for their own travel costs. The teams check pupils and treat them. Teachers and community members from the area can also use our free care. DDC also launches prevention programmes in the schools. This is an educational programme to teach the children how to brush their teeth. The teams are supplemented by Community Health Officers (COHO’s), men and women who have completed their basic dental care training. They get the opportunity to work in the schools and get more experience. DDC also operates two clinics in Kenya, one in Ukunda and one in the medical dispensary in Lunga Lunga. Both clinics are operated by a Kenyan COHO. Many patients have made their way to the clinics to get basic dental care for a modest fee. It is the goal that these clinics eventually become self-supporting. dutchdentalcare.nl/en/

Teachers4Teachers foundation

Education is future. Teachers4Teachers (T4T) believes in education. Since the foundation in 2006 they have focused on supporting the development of education in Kwale County. Together with approximately 450 schools, they help drive improvements of the school management and teaching performance of the teachers by capacity building. All for the benefit of the education of children. They do this by bringing professionals together and challenging them to work on the development of their professional competences, leadership and personal development. Teachers4Teachers operates on the basis of the motto: to meet, to connect, to learn. www.t4tkenya.org or www.teachers4teachers.nl
